2000 Census Bureau

US Census 2000

The Challenge – Carry out the largest peacetime activity of the U.S Government, Census 2000.

Positive Communications Solution – The Census Bureau contracted with Positive Communications to help the federal agency’s senior executives prepare for an avalanche of media and public attention surrounding the build up and execution of Census 2000.

Positive Communications Founder Christine Jahnke developed and wrote an extensive crisis communications manual that detailed the roles and responsibilities of hundreds of thousands of Census Bureau employees nationwide. The manual was the guide for dealing with the media and public should something go wrong.  All key spokespeople received crisis response training that included simulation drills designed to replicate real-life emergencies.

The Positive Communications team also provided media training and message development workshops for the Census Bureau leadership in twelve regional offices.  Hundreds of managers and directors learned how to prepare for local and national news media interviews with on-camera training.
